Repair All.  Lo and behold, the Fix-It Hero is there from original visit, who was so hard to track down in recent weeks.  He is well-nigh certain that simply a new photo gadget can be ordered (takes a week) and installed on the old iPhone (ironically the selfie mode still works occasionally, as can be seen in initla picture and immediately above, which I have been occasionally able to re-trigger, and he does here as well).  It's a little bit of pre-pay your money (but only a modest sum) and takes your chances, but here goes...
