May 13 - Study Day

Happy studying!  But don't work yourself too hard, as it looks like Saint Jerome's friend did above!  Looks downright worse than coronavirus!

But also, don't forget that one review is required for the course (usually two, but hard to write about any live concerts during the latter part of this semester, since none are happening!).

So, if you haven't already -- either review a concert that happened first half of the semester, or write about a substantial classical performance on YouTube (or analogous source).  To get that magic A (100 points), your review should include (below is pretty much from syllabus, reposted here):

An interesting, kicky title (something that will get the reader's attention)
An arresting, engaging lede (a.k.a. lead) sentence (again, to keep reader interested)
The news facts
(when, where, what, who, etc. -- although actual time of day is usually not mentioned...
if few pieces on program, good to talk about all; if many, you can make a judicious selection)
Good mechanics -- excellent grammar / spelling
(endeavor to avoid first person --
writing "I thought that", "it seems to me", is redundant, since you're obviously the writer!)
Perceptive content
(you may utilize the list of qualities we've developed over semester, or not --
you'll probably have an advantage over readers... you've taken in concert & they haven't...
write assuming the reader is any music enthusiast, anywhere in the world...)

As usual, c. 300-500 words, but should be in complete sentences, typed, double-spaced,
half-inch margins...  a page or two total...

Thanks!  Exam, Part II, will be posted Friday; Review Lecture 2, next Monday...

And that will pretty much be it, Wow!
